“Where there were no emerald fields, no beaches and no gentle shore, but only mountains and big headlands and the sea.”
Rockwell Kent, This Is My Own (1940)
Created as part of Kevin Lowery’s LAND’S END - An Artist’s Journey to Glenlough 100 Years After Rockwell Kent exhibition, Skelpoonagh Bay is a tribute to Kent’s painting of the same name, inspired by the monumental sea cliffs and untamed Atlantic landscape of County Donegal. The work reflects Kevin’s experience of travelling through and painting a landscape shaped by exposure, isolation and continually changing weather.
The exhibition runs at the Regional Cultural Centre, Letterkenny, from October 3 to November 14, and paintings will be available for collection or delivery after the end of the exhibition.
